2020 Vision

20/20 vision is a measurement of the clarity or sharpness of what your eyes can see at 20 feet away (a bit over 6 metres). If you have 20/20 vision, you can see clearly at 20 feet what should normally be seen at that distance. If you don’t have this “visual acuity” there are things that can help, like glasses or contact lenses, or therapy, medication or surgery.

The Bible talks about people needing clarity and sharpness of vision to flourish under God. Perhaps you’ve heard Proverbs 29:18 in the King James Version “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” This doesn’t mean eyesight! And it doesn’t even mean a Vision Statement cast by a powerful leader of a church or group. It means a “redemptive revelation” – a clarity about what God is doing and what he intends people to do to flourish as a community of faith and as the stewards of all His creation.

It’s easy to get a bit blurry on how things ought to look in the church, in our faith, and in the way we live in this world, and a gorgeous logo with captivating words on a page won’t necessarily make the difference. But I believe that our new vision here at Deep Creek, to be a church of refreshing faith that is life-giving to the believer, surprising to the world, and strengthening to the weary and doubting, is in fact a way of expressing God’s vision for us in this place and in this time. I believe it captures the essence of God’s word and His Spirit’s redemptive revelation for our church, for Doncaster East, Melbourne and beyond.

So over the next 6 weeks, we’re going to get some clarity on this vision. Why am I so confident that it represents the heart of God for us? What does the Bible say about our threefold mission? How will the Spirit make these words on a page sharp and powerful for our community this year?

Join us from the 16th February to the 29th of March as we get some serious
2020 vision.
