Every day through the media, government policy, family traditions, media and advertising, we are presented with the virtues, experiences, possessions and choices that should bring us the good life – but are they accurate? Are they consistent? Are they motivated by good or greed? Are they even possible?
Jesus’ teaching in the The Sermon on the Mount is a powerful and challenging call to authentic human flourishing – one that is based on knowledge of our weakness as well as what will bring us true satisfaction. It is comforting and confronting – and sometimes very difficult to hear. And yet a community of people empowered by the Holy Spirit who keep listening to this teaching over time will be become a light to their city and the world.
